U.S. needs to let more workers in

The key to reducing illegal immigration will be a strong temporary-worker program. This has been the missing ingredient of past efforts.

No amnesty for illegal immigrants

No one will deny that the reason America is the greatest nation on earth is due to the influx of immigrants from other countries.Many years ago the boatloads of poor, scared, homeless, fleeing from tyrannical leaders arrived on American soil with only one hope in mind — freedom.

They brought with them hope, intelligence and the determination to be part of a nation who gave them the opportunity to start a new life. During the years, these immigrants proved their worth. Using their culture and learning the culture of their adopted country, they continued to add to a solid foundation of a country prepared to welcome others to bring forth their need for freedom. With hard work, education and patience — and a full understanding that America will accept their beliefs and will not question why — they were fully aware that there was no free ride. These immigrants were eager to be accepted by the country they chose and become students of discipline, courage and self-sacrifice to achieve a great victory — to be honored as an American citizen.

During the years, some immigrants could not gather the strength to accept the American way of life. They wanted the good life but refused to earn the right to remain. They complained about our government, flag, pledge, Christian beliefs. They wanted America to adapt to their culture. They felt the English language was not necessary and that the American way of life in general was not structured as they wanted it structured. Those few were highly encouraged to take advantage of one other great American freedom the right to return to the country they refused to live in the first place. Some left and many did not leave and failed the test to work and do the right thing. They wanted all of the benefits without making a contribution.

President Obama has made it perfectly clear that he desires all illegal immigrants residing in America to receive amnesty and benefit from his health care plan. His goal is to acquire "numbers" for political reasons. He has closed his ears to the concerned American people who are screaming at him to understand that illegal immigration is crippling our country with the massive and insurmountable costs for education, welfare benefits, hospitalization, medical care, border patrols, policing and prisons.

America cannot afford and should not support Obama's proposal of a general amnesty (under the guise of a "guest worker's" program) for all illegal aliens living in our country. This is a slap in the face to the true immigrants who came to America, sacrificed, worked hard, only to realize that our current administration is foolishly wanting to turn over control of our once great nation to illegals who are instruments of terrorist nations that are our vowed enemies.
