President Obama’s Immigration Speech

President Obama gave a speech comprising of comprehensive immigration reform as its major topic, on January 29, 2013, at Del Sol High School, Las Vegas, Nevada. Others present were Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Nepolitano; former Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis; Secretary of Interior, Ken Salazar; and Mayor, Carolyn Goodman.

President Obama stated that it has been quite some time since a comprehensive immigration reform plan was asked for, and now is the time. His speech mainly pointed out the key issues that his immigration reform plan will include: eliminating long waiting periods for the families of greencard holders who have applied for the same; same-sex families will be treated as other families; green cards for highly skilled foreign workers and also easy access to work opportunities; swift solution for DREAMers.
